Week Two Results

Tennis update from week two

Week two of the South and Mid Cheshire league saw identical 5.5-2.5 wins for the Mens and Ladies A teams. The men beat last years champions Nantwich A and the ladies beat Cuddington A - both teams now have two wins out of two

Mens B went down to a narrow 3.5-4.5 defeat at Hartford D whilst Mens C started their season with an emphatic win over Holmes Chapel A by seven sets to one

Mens D made it two wins out of two after a long trek to Acton Bridge emerging victorious by 7.5-0.5 and in the same division Mens E got an excellent 5.5-2.5 victory over Cuddington D who were promoted with them last season

Unfortunately Mens F couldn’t build on their win in week one with a 2.5-5.5 defeat at Winsford C

Optimism was high as the newly formed G team took to the courts for the first time, but confidence was quickly dented by a superior Alsager B side. Rob McNinch and Tony Phillips were unable make any kind of dent in the consistent and canny Alsager attack across all 4 sets, whilst the other pairing of Benji Flenley and Bob Edmunds fared slightly better, with Benji's hammer serve finding it's mark on occasion, and Bob's consistent play forcing the odd error, but the result in the end was a disappointing 8-0 loss.

Ladies B secured their second win with a victory at Nantwich D but Ladies C unfortunately went down to Hartford D

Ladies D team played host to Cuddington B on Thursday in an entertaining match fraught with interruptions of the avian variety: some pigeons decided to do some low flying practice across the courts, definitely playing chicken and a duck decided she would like to get in on the action landing on court and having a wander round checking everyone out. With much arm flapping she eventually left the ladies to continue the match and gain a 6.5-1.5 win.

Mixed A went down narrowly at Nantwich A by 3-5 whilst Mixed B team of Angela Collins , Adam Goodall , Emma Walton and Andrew Giltrap were left with just a practice session as opponents Audlem concede their match at the last minute
